Have you heard about the Verandah Cares program created by Sew & Sews that delivers handmade blankets, pillows, and padded seatbelt covers to our Verandah Family (residents and staff) with health issues?
Verandah Cares started in 2017, when a resident suggested that Sews should make and deliver fleece blankets, pillows, and seatbelt covers for residents and staff members with health issues in Verandah. It was a great idea and we’ve been running the program ever since!
Referral-Based Program: Sew & Sews depends on neighbors contacting us when they are aware that a resident or staff member has a health issue. We don’t need to know the problem, but if privacy is not an issue, it is helpful in determining the appropriate gift.
Products Available:
- Fleece Pillow: Well-suited for someone with a shoulder, arm, hand, leg, knee, or hip injury or surgery. It is made with a pillow form and provides a firm base to support an injured limb.
- Cough Pillow: Perfect for someone who has had chest or abdominal surgery and needs to cushion the area when rising, sitting, coughing, sneezing, etc. It is filled with soft polyfil stuffing to support the area gently.
- Fleece Blanket: Who couldn’t use a fleece blanket that is like a warm hug when getting chemo, dialysis, infusions of any type, or has the post-surgical miseries.
- Padded Seatbelt Cover: The gift you didn’t know you needed. This small pillow attaches to your seatbelt and can be adjusted for comfort by sliding up or down. If you have a neck, chest, breast, rib injury or surgery, the padded seatbelt cover relieves pressure on the injured area while still keeping you safe.
- Comfort Cards: Sew & Sews also has an assortment of beautiful handmade get-well or sympathy cards we send when appropriate.
