Breaking News… More than Half of Sew & Sews’ Members Don’t Sew!

  • January 2026

That’s right! Most of our members are Knotters who tie knots in fleece to make beautiful blankets, or are members of our Helping Hands committee who iron, stuff pillows, or do whatever is needed to assist our sewing group. We also have a Yarn Arts group who crochet and knit.

But let’s face it… The Knotting, Ironing, Stuffing, Crocheting, Knitting, Sewing, Quilting Group isn’t nearly as cute a name as Sew & Sews!

Whatever you call us, we’re a fun group of women who started out as a quilting and sewing club and grew into a nonprofit organization. We create lovingly handmade items for other nonprofits to give to the people they serve. That’s the first part of our mission statement.

The second part of our mission is to provide a positive social and volunteer experience for our members. Are you retired and looking for a way to give back and make new friends at the same time? It feels good to do good!

Come to the Sew & Sews Kick-off Luncheon on Friday, January 16th and find out what we’re all about. This is also our 5th anniversary of being a nonprofit organization. Help us celebrate!

This year, we’ll be joined at the luncheon by speakers from three of our nonprofit organizations: ACT Abuse Women’s and Children’s Shelter, Lee Health Regional Cancer Center, and Children’s Network of SWFL (FL Foster Care System). They will tell us how the items we create are used and appreciated by the men, women, and children they serve.

Our luncheon co-chairs, Libbie Timmons and Maggie Schubert, have created a wonderful event with a delicious menu. Sign up online at https://sewandsews.org/luncheon-registration by the

January 5th deadline.
