When Verandah temperatures rise into the 90s and your snow-bird friends have flown north for the summer, are you looking for a way to stay cool and make new friends?
Look no further! Sew & Sews will be meeting all summer in the air-conditioned River House from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., two Friday mornings a month from June until the end of September. Meeting dates: June 13 and 27, July 11 and 25, August 15 and 29, September 12 and 26.
Sew & Sews create lovingly-made items that are donated to local nonprofits and people in need.
Don’t be fooled by our name! The Sew & Sews have many different ways for you to help without sewing.
• We make fleece blankets for kids and adults in need. Our Knotters Group also makes blankets and pillows for our neighbors in Verandah with health issues through Verandah Cares.
• If you love to crochet or knit, why do it alone? Sit with our Yarn Arts Group and make adorable items for preemies in the NICU at Golisano Children’s Hospital.
• We have a Helpers Committee that supports the Sewers by stuffing pillows, ironing, inserting elastic, or whatever is needed.
• And yes, we do have Sewing and Quilting Groups. The Quilters make blankets for kids in the foster care system and the Sewers make a variety of different items for the many nonprofits that depend on us.
We have extra sewing machines and offer lessons in all our activities over the summer. Come and cool off, do something to help others, and meet some new friends. A win-win-win!
